The Department of Public Health in Baylor University’s Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences is pleased to share that Liang Wang, MD, DrPH, MPH, FACE, FTOS, Director of Epidemiology and tenured Associate Professor of Public Health, has been elected as President of the China Health Policy and Management Society (CHPAMS). The 2022-2024 CHPAMS Board of Directors election results were announced in May 2022, and Wang began his role as president in July 2022.

CHPAMS was established in 2008 with guidance and financial support from China Medical Board, an independent U.S. foundation that aims to advance health in China and other Asian countries. CHPAMS seeks to improve health and health equity among Chinese people within and outside of China and contribute to the advancement of population health research, practice, and education in areas such as health policy and management, health economics, epidemiology, and global health. Members of the Society include national health officials from China, United States public health NGO representatives, world-class scholars from the United States, China, and other regions worldwide, and entrepreneurs in the health sector.

“I could not be more thrilled to be elected as President of CHPAMS. Engaging with scholars and health officials globally is an honor,” Wang said. “My heart has always been to serve those around me in every capacity, and being president of this society provides the platform to live out that mission. I cannot wait to engage in this role to advance the health of populations locally and globally.”

This new role provides Wang with a platform to continue to drive change in the public health space. He will have the opportunity to bridge the gap between Baylor University and other universities in the United States, China, and beyond. This integral exchange of information leverages knowledge and experience from leading scholars and officials, creating lasting relationships and significant impact.

Previously, Wang served as President-Elect and Board Director of CHPAMS. In addition, he is an elected Fellow of the American College of Epidemiology and a Fellow of The Obesity Society. His research focuses on obesity, nutrition epidemiology, and health education and promotion. He has an ongoing NIH R03 grant as Principal Investigator and a CMB grant as Co-Principal Investigator and has published more than 140 peer-reviewed papers (e.g., JACC, European Heart Journal, International Journal of Epidemiology, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition) and book chapters. Wang recently organized and chaired the U.S.-China Health Deans' Forum of the 2022 Southwest Data Science Conference (SDSC) at Baylor University (more information about the Forum can be found here and here.
