Baylor University’s Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences is pleased to announce the appointment of Katie Everson, OTD, OTR, as Clinical Assistant Professor for the Department of Occupational Therapy

Everson comes to Baylor from the University of Charleston, in Charleston, West Virginia, where she served as Associate Professor for the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program. There, she led curriculum development for mental health and clinical reasoning in a hybrid learning environment, helped the program work toward ACOTE accreditation, and mentored students.

Yet, Everson is no stranger to Baylor Occupational Therapy. Since 2021, she has provided mentorship to Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) students throughout the duration of their capstone projects. In addition, she has served as an adjunct faculty member. During this time, Everson helped to enhance Baylor’s OTD mental health course curriculum and facilitated instruction and hands-on learning experiences during lab immersions.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Katie Everson as a Clinical Assistant Professor in our Department,” said Department Chair Marian Gillard, PhD, OTR, FAOTA. “Her depth of experience in hybrid occupational therapy education, mental health practice, clinical reasoning, and ACOTE-aligned curriculum development will further strengthen our mission to prepare practice scholars and educational leaders for a rapidly evolving profession.”

At Shenandoah University, Everson received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and her Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy. She went on to earn her Post-professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree at Bay Path University.

As an occupational therapist, Everson strives to empower individuals and caregivers to build connection and confidence through occupation. Currently, she is licensed to practice in Florida, Massachusetts, Texas, and West Virginia. She has worked extensively within mental health, pediatrics, and community practice settings, and specializes in sensory-based and trauma-informed interventions that foster resilience, emotional regulation, and meaningful engagement in daily life.

“In addition, I am passionate about bridging clinical expertise with education—mentoring future occupational therapists to think creatively, serve compassionately, and advocate for holistic wellness across diverse communities,” Everson said. “I believe that occupational therapy has the power to restore both function and hope, transforming lives through meaningful participation.”

Beyond her work, Everson cherishes time spent with her husband, two daughters, and three golden retrievers, while living on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. There, she loves exploring the region’s beautiful beaches and water. She also enjoys traveling with her daughters to destinations that inspire adventure, curiosity, and joy.

“I am deeply honored to join the Baylor OTD faculty, a community that truly feels like family. From my first interactions, it was clear that this program is built on genuine connection, purpose, and a shared passion for creating real, meaningful change in the lives of others,” Everson said. “I am inspired to contribute to that mission and grow alongside such an exceptional team.”
