Congratulations to Baylor University’s Bachelor of Science in Interior Design program for meeting the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) Professional Standards, and as such, being awarded accreditation for a term of six years, effective 2025.

Housed in the Department of Human Sciences and Design in Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences, Baylor’s Interior Design program is celebrating two decades of accreditation under CIDA, demonstrating the program’s longstanding history of excellence in educating and graduating highly qualified interior design professionals.

“As the only Interior Design program housed within an R1 Christian university, Baylor offers a distinctive academic experience. The program’s location within Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences further underscores its commitment to evidence-based design and promoting human well-being,” said Elise King, IDEC, NCIDQ, Interim Chair of the Department of Human Sciences and Design. “The successful reaccreditation report and site visit speak to the strength of this unique model—where academic rigor, professional preparation, and a mission-driven approach come together to shape exceptional designers.”

An independent, non-profit accrediting organization for interior design education programs at colleges and universities in the United States and internationally, CIDA is recognized as a reliable authority on interior design education by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Programs seeking accreditation, or reaccreditation as in the case of Baylor, engage in a rigorous process that includes a self-study, site visit, and peer review.

The report from Baylor’s site visit, which occurred in November 2024, highlighted that the Interior Design program’s focus on foundational skills and technical details “prepares students to handle diverse design challenges, fostering creativity, precision, and professional readiness.” According to the Baylor Career Center, since 2021, 96% of Baylor Interior Design alumni accepted a full-time job opportunity within six months of graduation.

The Baylor Interior Design program proudly prepares undergraduate students to serve with integrity in a diverse and global marketplace, equipped to address human needs by applying methods of inquiry and design that promotes health, safety, and wellness of all users within the built environment.
