Gina M. Wright Joins Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders Faculty
Baylor University’s Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences is pleased to announce the appointment of Gina M. Wright, CCC-SLP, as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
“We are thrilled to welcome Gina Wright as our new clinical educator. Dedicated to evidence-based practice in her work with preschool-aged children, she brings a wealth of experience and a passion for innovative education,” said Michaela Ritter, EdD, CCC-SLP, holder of the Martin Family Endowed Chair in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. “Her strong pedagogical skills and commitment to excellence will undoubtedly contribute to the continued growth and success of our program.”
At the University of Houston, Wright earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in the Communication Sciences and Disorders, and then her Master of Arts degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Licensed through the State of Texas since 2005, she holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology and is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Wright also holds certification for PROMPT techniques and VitalStim therapy, and she is trained in Meaningful Speech and the Get Permission Approach.
Wright built a clinical career as a speech-language pathologist working with individuals ranging in age from birth to 21 years old. She has clinical experience in home healthcare, the Houston public school system, private practices, and the public mental health system of Harris County (Houston). Most recently, she served as a speech-language pathologist at KidZ TherapeZe in Killeen, Texas. Wright’s research interests focus on early language development and delays.
“Through the years, I have learned that research is the foundation of both ethical and evidence-based practice,” Wright said. “My goal is to implement an early language group for further research of language skills and measures of development on typically developing preschoolers and preschoolers with language delays. I would love to collaborate with other professionals, such as early educators, physical therapists, and occupational therapists, to further research the whole child.”
Wright resides in Central Texas with her family and refers to her children, granddaughter, and husband as “the highlights of my life.” She enjoys baking, cooking, singing, spending time outdoors, and traveling. Having built a strong relationship with her church family—serving as a member there her entire life—she is thrilled to become a part of Baylor’s Christian mission.
“To serve and educate men and women who aspire to become speech-language pathologists has been a dream of mine for years,” Wright said. “And to be able to serve at a University whose mission is to integrate academic excellence and Christian commitment is beyond my wildest dreams. I am excited to join committed individuals in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders who share the same passion that I have—to serve others with honor and respect.”
