Chelsi Hansen Joins Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders Faculty

Baylor University’s Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences is pleased to announce the appointment of Chelsi Hansen, CCC-SLP, as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD).

“As a graduate of Baylor, Chelsi Hansen brings a deep love for the University’s traditions and culture,” said Michaela Ritter, EdD, CCC-SLP, holder of the Martin Family Endowed Chair in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. “Her expertise in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), and her dedication to supporting children and adults with complex communication needs, make her a valuable addition to our team. We are confident her passion and skills will greatly enhance our program and community.”

Hansen received a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Texas at Austin. She then earned a Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders at Baylor. Currently, she is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA),Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA), and Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (TSHA). 

Licensed through the State of Texas, Hansen holds the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence and is a certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP)From 2016 to 2018, she served as a Region 12 Speech Language Pathology Advisory Committee Representative for Midway Independent School District. She spent much of her career directly supporting children within the public school system and has experience working in private clinics and rehab settings.

Hansen’s expertise is in AAC, passionately aiding those who cannot rely on verbal speech toward other avenues of communicating. At Midway Independent School District, she supported the integration of iPads as communication devices and assistive technology tools. She guest-lectured at universities to share about the use, assessment, funding, and implementation of AAC devices. Recently, she consulted for a large AAC device company.

She has four children and has been married for 18 years, all who love to hike and camp as a family at Texas State Parks. She enjoys reading, playing games (a current favorite is Rummikub), and looking for interesting finds at estate sales and thrift stores.

Hansen is looking forward to returning home to a beloved Baylor department.

“As an alumna of Baylor’s CSD graduate program, joining the Department as faculty is a full circle moment,” Hansen said. “I am so excited to be part of a program that works steadfastly to educate and send professionals out into the world to help give voices to those who may not have one.”
